    Year 4

    Welcome to Year 4!

We would like to warmly welcome your child into Year 4. We are very excited to support them as they continue their Key Stage 2 journey at Red Hill Primary School and look forward to a year of learning, exploration and exciting new opportunities!

At Red Hill, we have four Year 4 classes:

    4S Ms Saunders

4WB Miss Wooldridge & Mrs Balaj

    4B Mr Bull

    4P Miss Power

Mrs Simmonds and Miss Cope run targeted interventions across the year group, whilst Miss Davies works with individual children and small groups.

    Our Class Pioneers

Our Class Pioneers are inspirational people who have made a difference through their ideas, creativity, curiosity and determination. They remind us that being a pioneer means having the courage to think differently, follow your passions and make your own mark on the world.

    4P – Katsushika Hokusai
A pioneering Japanese artist who created detailed and imaginative prints. His artwork, especially The Great Wave, became famous around the world and inspired many other artists.
“From around the age of six, I had the habit of sketching from life.”

    4WB – Frida Kahlo
A pioneering Mexican artist who used her paintings to express her feelings, experiences and identity. She became famous for her colourful self-portraits and unique artistic style.
“At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.”

    4S – Agnes White
A pioneering artist and illustrator whose creativity and imagination helped bring stories and ideas to life through her artwork. She showed how artists can use their skills and creativity to communicate with others.

    4B – William Morris
A pioneering British artist, designer and writer who changed the way people thought about art and design. He was inspired by nature and created beautiful patterns, wallpapers and fabrics that are still admired today.
“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

    Supporting Your Child at Home

Children will bring homework home every Friday in their homework books, and should hand them back into school every Wednesday.

    Weekly homework includes:

    • Maths – A short maths challenge linking to the week’s learning. Children should also log into TTRS (https://ttrockstars.com) and practise their multiplication recall.
    • Spellings – Children will have 10 spellings sent home linking to a spelling pattern being taught in class. These will be tested in the spelling session on a Wednesday morning.
    • Reading – Reading should be completed a minimum of 3x a week, but ideally for 10 minutes each evening. This can be completed with an adult, or children can choose to read independently. All reading sessions need to be recorded in their reading records, which should be brought into school daily.
