Thank you for visiting our website. We are a very busy school with lots of amazing learning taking place everyday. Everyone at Burnt Oak Junior School has the highest aspirations for all the children and we are constantly striving towards excellence in everything. Christmas at BOJ!

Yesterday our choir went to Bexleyheath to sing as part of the local hospice's Carolthon. They were joined by the choir from Belvedere Junior School and sang a variety of Christmas carols together. All the children enjoyed taking part and were beautifully behaved. Thank you to Mrs Murray for organsing the event and also to all our families who came to support the children.

Friendship Day

We celebrated Friendship Day within school with lots of exciting activities. All the children had the opportunity to work with their existing friends and to make new friends throughout the school. The children were encouraged to show RAOK to everyone (random acts of kindness!).

PJ day for Children in Need

We supported Children in Need by asking children to make a £1 donation for them to be able their PJs for the day. There were lots of wonderful and fluffy creations being worn and everybody looked very relaxed! Year 6 had a extra treat and visited Chatsworth Infants. They remimisced about their time at the school and joined in the many activities with the children.

Thank you for your kind donations to this worthy charity.

BOJ's library relaunch

This week our library has been re-opened following a fantastic make over. Miss Farrer has been very busy sorting the books, decorating the space and generally making it a special place to be. New librarians have been appointed from years 5 and 6 and they all have been given responsibilities in order to ensure the library is used properly. If you want to have a peek at the library when you visit this week for parent's evening then feel free!

Un Day at BOJ!

To end the half term we celebrated United Nations day. Every class chose a different country from the UN to investgate. We invited our Grandparents in to learn alongside us and to share in the experience. They made some lovely comment such as:

'Wonderful to see how the children are being taught'.

'A very pleasant morning, stretched their imaginations. A joy!'

All the children and staff dressed up and it was a great day. Thank you to all the Grandparents who came to support the day and also to the parents who helped their child with their costumes.

Year 4 visit Wide Horizons

Year 4 visited the 'Wide Horizons' environmental centre in Eltham. This was to support their science topic of 'Habitats'. All the children had a fantastic time looking for a variety of different mini beasts and creatures. They also made some wonderful creatures with clay. All of the the children were beautifully behaved and were a credit to the school. Well done.

Year 4 have been very busy designing and making a variety of habitats for their homework. This is to support their science learning within school. All of the children have been very creative with their designs and were very excited to see that some insects had already made themselves at home. Thank you to all the parents (and grandparents) who have supported the children with this activity.

Harvest Festival

We held our Harvest Festival this week. Fr Philip came into school  to lead and join in with our celebrations. Some of our new year 3 children read a lovely harvest poem.

The Co-op foodbank are collecting all the wonderful donations you have given in order to benefit others. Thank you for supporting the school.

This week is Creative Writing Week at BOJ. The teachers have planned a variety of exciting opportunities that will give all the children the chance to use their fantatsic imaginations. They will also be developing their skills as writers and learning together to produce magical stories, poems, reports, recounts ..... the list is endless!

Jeans for Genes Day

All the children had the opportunity  to wear jeans to school in order to raise money for children affected by life-changing genetic disorders. Your kind donations will fund the care and support children, and their families need today. We managed to raise over £220.00. Thank you for your generosity.

We have been very excited about welcoming our new year 3 children. They have all settled into the school extremely well and are getting to know their way around. We wish them all the best as they start their BOJ journey!

Dare to Inspire - George Fouche

We were very lucky to have ex South Africian rubgy Union player George Fouche visit BOJ this week. He worked with the children in year 5 and 6 on how to meet their dreams. He also took a whole school assembly where he told the children of his inspirational story. All the children were totally transfixed and hung on his every word! Thank you to George for giving everyone an uplifting experience.

Super Sports Champions

Our Sport Champions received their training this week from Miss Allsop, who is Bexley's School Games Coorindator. They leant how to lead children in fun games and how to promote physical activities at lunch time and playtimes. A very big thank you to Miss Allsop for taking the time to train our young leaders and we look forward to them taking on their new positions within the school.

Remembrance Assembly

We all took part in a special remembrance assembly to celebrate and remember all the people who have given their lives during wars past and present. Year 6 read some of their  poems based on WW1 and we all took part in a 2 minute silence to show our respects. Mr Royle, our govenor, attended the assembly and was amazed at quality of the poems that year 6 had written.  All the children behaved themselves beautifully and the whole experience was very moving.

Thank you for supporting the poppy appeal. Lots of money has been raised to go to the Royal British Legion.

BOJ Governors visit meet school council

Today some of the school council members had the opportunity to meet the BOJ governors. They talked about their role on the school council and then the governors explained how they support the school. Lots of questions were asked by both the children and governors in order to find out more about each other's roles. The children spoke very positively about BOJ and what they enjoyed most about being a pupil here.

Sidcup Fire Bridage visits BOJ

We have been lucky to have had a visit from three members of  Sidcup Fire Brigade. They gave all the  children a fire safety talk where the children learnt about the role of a fire officer, how to keep themselves safe around fire and also what to do in an emergency. Afterwards the children were able to climb aboard a fire engine and to use the actual hose!

Head boy and Head girl elections

It has been election fever at BOJ this week with the Head boy and Head girl elections. Lots of children put themselves forward for the roles and delivered specches that were both persuasive and inspirational. Everyone in the school cast their vote and once they were all counted it was announced that Teddy P was the new Head boy and Darcey G was the new Head girl. Their deputies are Nathan C and Kimberley M. Well done to everyone who took part

Year 6 Bikeability

This week some of the Year 6  participated in the Bexley Bikeability scheme. This involved the children being taken out in the local neighbourhood to learn about how to keep themselves safe when riding their bikes. All the children were beautifully behaved and enjoyed this worthwhile experience.

New Topics!

All year groups have got stuck into their new topics this week. Year 4 had an especially yummy time yesterday when their classrooms were turned into their very own 'Kaspas'. All the children enjoyed pancakes with a variety of delicious toppings. They had a very special waitress to serve them as you can see in the photo below.

Year 3 have been making shelters to launch their topic on 'The Stone 'Age'.

Year 5 have researched and made models from the Roman Times to launch their topic of 'The Bold and the Brave'.

Year 6 have researched and produced group presentations about an important historical event to launch their topic  'The Time Tunnel'.
