Curriculum

Please click below to see the curriculum map for Year 2, as well as half termly topic webs. These are working documents however, so they may change as we progress into the term. The Year 2 Curriculum Meeting slides are also below.

Homework sheets

Please see below for weekly homework sheets. Children should have brought these home every Friday in their homework books.

Attached is also a recommended reading list.

Our Learning

Our topic for this half term is People of the Past.

In People of the past we will be learning all about a variety of significant people who left a lasting impact on humanity through their hard work, resilience and creativity.  As historians, we will investigate the lives of several influential figures to find out about the personal qualities that enabled them to shape the world as we know it. As artists, we will be producing pieces inspired by the lives and works of famous composers and painters, thereby exploring the elements that made their creations so ground-breaking.

English

Using the texts, ‘Aesop’s fables – The Sun and The Wind’ and ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ we will be writing retelling narratives and writing recounts from personal experiences as well as creating character descriptions.

Maths

We will be learning all about statistics, where we will be analysing tables, tally charts and block diagrams as well as drawing and interpreting pictograms.

We will then be looking at position and direction by describing turns and shape patterns with turns.

Supporting your child with their learning at home

Reading

Reading should be completed a minimum of 3x a week, but ideally for 10 minutes each evening. This should be completed with an adult, and children can choose to read their own book, a book from school or on bug club. Adults need to record the reading session in the reading record, alongside a sentence or two about how the read and anything they found tricky. Reading records must be in school every day.

Homework books

Homework books are sent home on a Friday and must be returned to school on a Wednesday. Weekly homework includes:

Maths

A short maths challenge linking to the week’s learning. There will be 3 different challenges that your child can choose to complete depending on how confident they felt with that concept in class. Children should also log into TTRS (https://ttrockstars.com) and practise their multiplication recall.

Spellings

Children will have 10 spellings sent home linking to a spelling pattern being taught in class. These will be tested in the spelling session on a Wednesday morning.

IPC

At the bottom of the homework will be some questions linking to the topics being taught in class. Please ask your children these questions and get them talking about all the incredible learning that is taking place in classrooms! This is a great chance for children to share all of their amazing knowledge.

PE

PE days are as follows for Summer 1:

2M - Monday

2C - Monday and Thursday

2MM - Friday

As we move into Summer, please ensure that children wear their appropriatePE kits (PE shorts or jogging bottoms, Red Hill PE top, school jumper and trainers). Please also make sure children bring a warm, waterproof coat with a hood just incase of the rain.
